The INTERPHOTO festival, held biennially since 2013, is a recognizable interdisciplinary event popularizing trends in contemporary photography, with an emphasis on artistic phenomena from Poland and Central and Eastern European countries. An important element is the educational theme related to social and historical issues. This is why we promote exhibitions that bring closer the events taking place in our country and in neighboring countries that have influenced the development of world art. “Collecting Worlds” – the main theme of INTERPHOTO 2024 – analyzes the historical-visual influence of Polish art on the East and West of Europe through the perspective of collecting, justified in museum and private collections, juxtaposed in dialogue with displays of individual artistic projects. As a complement to this perspective, we bring the audience closer to the profiling of Polish photographic festivals through their presentations in the context of the main theme.
In the event lasting over a month, we will introduce you to both professional artists exploring new areas of photography and related media, as well as photography conceived as a simple visual message, accessible to everyone. We will present well-known artists from Belarus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, and other countries of Europe and the world. We will host photography festival directors, jurors, and critics from Austria, Belarus, Estonia, the Philippines, Lithuania, Germany, Poland, Hungary, and Italy. The Grand Prix presentation will feature projects by artists from all over the world, and 10 of them will participate in the final exhibition.
Within the confines of this year’s edition, we have planned to present more than 200 artists, with the direct participation of around 100 of them, as well as 17 curators and 15 jurors from abroad. There will be 30 exhibitions, 3 workshops, 4 film screenings in the Helios cinema network, an innovative hybrid Portfolio Review, competitions: INTERPHOTO GRAND PRIX, Street Art, Young Photography, a photo show with live music, a scientific panel on the profiling of Polish photography festivals, 5 lectures and talks, author meetings (28), an international streaming press conference, an inauguration ceremony with the participation of the public, guests, artists, provincial and city authorities, curators, critics, and publishers; a picnic and a photo walk.
The main theme of the festival, regardless of the edition, is a BORDER, with all the dimensions belonging to this motto, from Genius Loci to areas of individual experience on a spiritual or experimental level.
